Dorchester bike festival: saturday april 26 9am-12noon come enjoy some free breakfast and familiarize yourself with the new ashmont pedal &; park facility which enables commuters to park their bikes before catching buses and trains at the ashmont t station. Well have family-friendly activities and prizes too. Background: the ashmont pedal &; park facility has been years in the making. Since at least 20 smams has worked with residents business owners the mbta and bike advocacy groups (among others) to get this project completed. The pedal &; park facility was completed in november 2013 but it has not yet had a public celebration. Smams is planning an event that will accomplish several goals. We plan to: 1) celebrate the successful completion of the pedal &; park facility; 2) educate the community about how to use the facility; and 3) promote cycling as both a mode of transportation and a fun family-friendly recreation opportunity. Event: smams bike and beer fest date: thursday september 17 2015 time: 5-8pm estimated attendance: 200-3 location: peabody square plaza outside of ashmont grill (555 talbot ave) and ashmont cycles (551 talbot ave). Possibly also along talbot ave. Between dorchester ave. And welles ave. This event will be organized by the smams community events and public space committee. Description of event: the smams bike and beer fest is modeled after a similar event organized by redbones bbq in davis square somerville (http:/www. Redbones. Com/bikeparty. Html). The redbones event is in its 18th year. We propose an event that will celebrate cycling bring people to the peabody square area and promote our neighborhood. Smams organized a bike festival last year with an estimated attendees and this bike and beer fest is a direct result of that inaugural effort.
