Dorchester bike festival: saturday april 26 9am-12noon come enjoy some free breakfast and familiarize yourself with the new ashmont pedal &; park facility which enables commuters to park their bikes before catching buses and trains at the ashmont t station. Well have family-friendly activities and prizes too. Background: the ashmont pedal &; park facility has been years in the making. Since at least 20 smams has worked with residents business owners the mbta and bike advocacy groups (among others) to get this project completed. The pedal &; park facility was completed in november 2013 but it has not yet had a public celebration. Smams is planning an event that will accomplish several goals. We plan to: 1) celebrate the successful completion of the pedal &; park facility; 2) educate the community about how to use the facility; and 3) promote cycling as both a mode of transportation and a fun family-friendly recreation opportunity.
