On behalf of the district of columbia water and sewer authority (dc water), the dc clean rivers (dccr) project requests the approval to abandon a monitoring well (nebbc-50) located in the on a paved area between the pedestiran sidewalk and an enclosed parking lot. This monitoring well was installed by dccr during the investigation and design phase to provide information regarding subsurface conditions. Construction of the tunnel and near surface structures under division p is now complete. Therefore, the well installed as part of this division is no longer needed and will be abandoned. The monitoring well will be abandoned by either removing the well casing or perforating the well casing in the screened interval and filling the well with a cement bentonite slurry, or by backfilling with medium, hydrated, bentonite pellets in accordance with the well regulations (1831. 5). Monitoring wells will be abandoned following doee regulations. See attached work plan for more details.

Dccr proposes to drill two geotechnical boring (nebbc-74 and nebbc-76) located at corner of t street nw and rhode island avenue nw. The boring will be 8 inches diameter and 1 feet bgs and 1 bgs, drilled by mud rotary methods. Vibrating wire piezometers will be installed at 65 feet and 145 feet bgs for nebbc-74 and at 62 feet bgs for nebbc-76. All drilling generated waste will be drummed (solids and liquids), tested and shipped offsite for disposal. In the event the well is not completed within 1 day, the well shall be covered protected from surface water drainage, and the vertical migration of contaminants and other materials through the well casing and well annulus. A locking well cap will be installed and the rig parked over the excavation to prohibit vandalism. No drilling spoils or excavated soils will be used as backfill. See idw management plan and attached schematics for additional information.

Drill one geotechnical boring identified as nebbc-50, which is located on a paved area between the pedestrian sidewalk and an enclosed parking lot. The work zone will not infringe on the sidewalk. The boring will be 6 inches in diameter and approximately 135 feet deep. A temporary groundwater monitoring well will be installed. The work time will be approximately 2 weeks and the work will require 24 7 occupancy of the work area. We request to work full time between 7am and 7pm. The temporary monitoring well will remain for up to 5 years.

Advance 2 direct-push borings identified as nebbd-13e and 14e, to the west of 1901 1st street nw (at the intersection of 1st st nw and thomas st nw), which are located between the sidewalk and the southbound parking lane. The borings will each be 2 inches in diameter and approximately feet deep. Each boring will take up to 2 days to complete and will require the full work time between 7am and 7pm.
